About Me
Hi, I'm Griffin Petti, a junior communications major at A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, and also a first year coverage staffer on The Muse.
Personal Narrative
My journalism journey started officially in 8th grade, when I joined my schools broadcast news crew. I learned how to make news packages, went on camera for the first time, and though my role was not very consequential, a spark went off inside my brain. The next year, my first year at Dreyfoos and my first year of high school, I was not only yet again enrolled in a TV Production class, but I also took an introduction to journalism course. To be completely honest, at that time, I was not very passionate about either mediums, and the work started to feel like busywork that I was losing passion in, and began to turn in late and receive poor grades for.

It wasn’t until the second semester of my sophomore year that I truly started to feel a passion for journalism again. It was that year that I officially joined our broadcast news program, DSOA Today, and it wasn’t until that semester that I finally saw my first time in the studio since 8th grade.
I loved everything about being in the studio. Finally the passion that i once had in 8th grade came back. I enjoyed writing, performing, manning the camera, and most of all I loved anchoring. As the year came close to an end, and Muse applications arrived, I applied to become a writer, as I wanted to expand my Journalistic career.
As Junior year started, and I officially started my first year as a Muse staffer, the first cycle went great. My first article, a feature about our new Assistant Pirnicapl, Mr. Dawson, texted my abilities to interview and write. The next two articles in my web cycle, about Club Rush and artists in residence respectively, did not go as well, and neither of them in my opinion were successes.
With my club rush story my photo partner and I were not able to complete it in time, and it was not posted because of a lack of timeliness, where my artists in residence story missed the deadline, and we struggled to find interviewees and artist in residence to cover.
Around this time, the passion I once had for writing had slowly decreased. My artists in residence story was still postponed when I was assigned my print opinion article which was on the parental consent laws in Florida. To be honest, in the beginning I was intimidated, due to the serious nature of this assignment, and I was concerned I wasn’t going to do the article justice, and sound unintelligent and uninformed.
To my surprise, writing my last opinion article was my favorite writing experience so far this year. I really enjoyed voicing my opinion, and I became very interested in the topic of parental control, and very passionate about my opinion, which I think is shown in the article. TO this day, I think it is my best work so far, and I am very proud of this article, and very excited for my first print article to be published.
After this article, my passion had been restored again, and I now am extremely excited to all further opportunities and articles I will write in the future.
